How can I cut my kittens nails?

I have a kitten that's been with us for three weeks. He's become comfortable with us but still skittish a little when they're is loud noises. He's scratched up our leather couches already and scratched my legs pretty bad. How can I get him to calm down and hold him to cut his nails? How can I cut my kittens nails?
Until you get used to trimming nails, it helps if you have a ';helper';. One should hold the kitten wrapped in a towel and the other needs to do one foot at a time - if the kitten is small, use regular small fingernail clippers to nip the sharp tip off. Be careful you don't cut too far back.

You will see a red line in the nail - that's the quick and you don't want to cut that and make it bleed.

As the kitten get bigger, you can eventually use regular cat nail clippers - I find the scissor type to be better then the bigger dog nail clipper type.

Check and trim as needed once a week. If you want you can use the SoftPaws nail caps to put over the nails.

Do NOT declaw - read this about the truth of declawing.

Fortunately cats/kittens have clear nails so there's less chance of cutting the nail too short. Fingernail clippers work well. I'd suggest getting the kitten used to having its paws touched with brief but daily touching of the top and bottom of the paws, followed by a treat or some playing. If you feel you don't have the time to do that first, gently wrap kitten in a towel to avoid a struggle and getting scratched while someone else does the clipping.

As for breaking the furniture scratching... a substitute such as a scratching post, corrugated cardboard rings or board wrapped with thissel (sp?) rope should be an interesting alternative, especially if you rub a bit of catnip on them. Then a squirt of water and a sharp ';NO!'; if kitten heads to the furniture. Just a hint... don't use the kitten's name when scolding because you don't want them to have negative association with their name.
buy a special nail clipper, I've used the ';people kind'; and they hurt and make their nails flaky... consider buying ';soft claws'; ur furniture will thank you!
well i havve two cats. i dont think ur suppose too. you could get him declawed but hell calm down and retract his claws
