How do I get salon cool nails at home?

I want some cool patterns and stuff to do on my nails. I'm a big fan of the French manicure, but that seems to get mesed up REALLY easy. I have those tiny paint brushes, and those white tape things to get straight lines for your manicure. Please give me some ideas and directions I can do at home!

Ohh, and I saw those black nails with blue and white splattered on the nails in Seventeen Magazine, but when I tried it at home, I found it impossible to splatter the nail polish on.How do I get salon cool nails at home?
It's really hard to get salon quality nails at home, especially if you have no experience. I seen those nails too in the mag, gorgeous! Even if you get the perfect, most descriptive directions, your not going to get as good of a result as a salon.

I love the french tips too, I tried once but got the polish all over myself, thats why I don't paint my nails often. I would just spend the few dollars %26amp; get a manicure at a mani/pedi shop, you know? Its cheaper than at a salon, ALOT cheaper. They wouldn't charge alot to paint your nails for you, or if you wanted to get the fake ones, it wouldn't be much either. You can see how they do it, and then do it yourself after that. Bring the magazine with you, ask them to do the splatter on your nails and watch how they do it. Well good luck. :)How do I get salon cool nails at home?

It really is easy. First of all I cannot use those white tape strips for the french manicure either. I just practiced and now my hand is steady enough to do it on my own. Also you can get really cute nail stickers and Walmart or Walgreens. They come in gems and flowers and all kinds of really cute patterns. Just paint the color you want. Then with tweezers apply t he sticker and paint over with a clear top coat. They last forever.

I really need to paint my finger nails, and i'm sick of going 2 professionals because it never lasts. I ned tips...anything, I really suck at it.How do you paint finger nails?
Cut your nails first and file the edges. Then take a damp cloth and push down the skin at the base of your nails, the cuticles. Remove any old polish flakes.

Paint first with your writing hand so you have better control and start out confidant. You make smooth strokes from base of the nail to the tip with your choice of colour. Try to use your fingers to direct the brush instead of your wrists, they tend to shake for me. After the first coat of polish has dried, either apply another coat to deepen the colour, or finish with a coat of clear gloss.

Painting your toenails instantly gives them classy boost as well ;)How do you paint finger nails?
Get a good nail polish that wont chip. Going to professionals isn't for long lasting results, they just do it for you. I am always too lazy to paint my nails so i used to have acrylic tips. But after a few months i decided that i spent way too much money and my nails were thin as paper and it hurt like hell.
Get good quality nail polish. Start from your cuticle and paint a straight line down to the tip of your nail, then spread the nail polish evenly to the rest of your nail. Add a good clear coat on top to preserve the color. You can youtube some cool designs for more help.

Do you think just painting your nails plain black is ugly?

Like all your fingers just black? No other colors on top of it? What if you are a guy? Does it mean you are goth?Do you think just painting your nails plain black is ugly?
To me, it doesn't look as good on girls with paler skin. My friend with olive skin looks gorgeous with black nails. So I guess it depends on your skin tone.

If you're a guy...Ehh I'm not sure why he'd wear nail polish but I guess it's ok...and if he's in a band because it seems like wearing makeup and nail polish is acceptable if the guy is in a band.Do you think just painting your nails plain black is ugly?
    I don't think it's ugly.

And it doesn't necessarily mean you're goth. You could be emo or punk .. or just yourself =]
    i love it.

    i keep mine that way.

but i always make them look chipped.

%26amp;%26amp; it doesnt reall mean a guy is goth if a guy wears it...

    its just hottt.

    ^_^
no I love black nail polish...it's the only color I wear...I think it looks hot on some guys (like frank iero) but on some guys it looks weird...but mostly hot lol
yes... so is polishing your fingernails all blue or all yellow or orange
Noooooo! I think black nails are GORGEOUS.

It's like the only color I wear.

They match everything and are very chanel looking.

If you're a guy, idk. kinda weird but not uncommon.
No, it looks ok. If you're a guy then it might mean you like painting your nails black and make them look less boring.
i enjoy it. but it looks even better if u alternate each finger with yellow or white. any other exotic and bright color works too.
    I think it is ugly. If you are going to paint your nails a dark color, I think chocolate or deep red is a much better way to go. Guys that paint their nails black are usually called ';goth'; or ';rocker';
    its immature
Black says goth to me. I don't even think a sparkly black is any better. It's just not a human-friendly color to put on anyone's nails! Black is ugh!
If you have short nails I think it looks very chic. Long nails with a black color is really scary looking. If you are guy it pretty much means that you live a little more on the rocker side. I kind of like the look of black nails it adds edge to a lot of outfits.
    no.

i only wear just plain black

    nail polish.

and i think its hot when guys do
I used to think that meant you were a devil worshipper if you wore it, when i was little. So now I can't make myself wear it lol, but i think it looks good when it's not all chipped, and on shorted nails. It's not gay when a guy does it, but he looks kinda posery lol, and it doesn't mean you're goth.
nope it's cute ,and it looks stylish
for a guy it means u are gay, goth or emo.. for a girl the color black goes with almost anything and no it is not ugly..its only ugly if u wear it everyday and never take it off....
Prettyful man! And guys with black nails are adorable =) Oh and no, it definately does not mean you're goth =)

How do i stop biting my nails?

i have had this bad habit ever since i could remember, and the only time i didnt bite my nails for a nearly a month, was because i got these really expensive french nails.

I saw once on TV that if you bite ur nails it means that ur irritable and rash. i think its true because when i get really short-tempered, i tend to bite my nails even more.

    any suggestions please??

i need help! i have really ugly and short nails!

How do i stop biting my nails?
use hand sanittizer often, it makes your whole hand taste horrible, they also have foul tasting nail polish. anything horrible on your finger tips will make you spit your finger out right away. i suggest the hand sanitizer as it is cheaper and keeps you clean, 3 small travel bottles for one dollar as opposed to 11$ for a bottle of polish.

these are just a few known methods. good luck! How do i stop biting my nails?
I used to use one of the nail varnishes that makes your hand taste gross but it didn't stop me!

The only time i stopped was when my mum bought me this nail strengthener. It's like a plastic nail varnish meant as a protection for people with weak, brittle nails and - seriously - you can't physically bite your nails because they're too hard! As long as you remember to keep applying it, it totally works. I don't remember the brand but ill try and find out xxx
you can either stop cold turkey.

or put something nasty tasting on your fingers, like germ-x, to make you stop.

sorry i can't be of more help, but i used to suck on my finger for years and this is what helped me :P
    theres this really good nail polish that tastes bad so if u bite them ur liike ';EW!';

How can I stop biting my nails?

I have tried so many times to stop, but I always end up biting them. I usually bite them if I'm bored or nervous, without even realizing it. When I think about it, it seems so gross. How can I make myself stop? If you had a habit of biting your nails or any other bad habit, what did you do to stop? How can I stop biting my nails?
Put nail polish on them because maybe you won't be as inclined to chew them if you know red specks of toxic polish will be in your mouth ?

Or rub vinegar on them every few hours. You probably won't want that in your mouth either.

Or you could keep your hands busy with scrapbooking, playing an instrument. Drum your nails against a surface wheny you want to chew them (but try quietly because that sound can drive people CRAZY)

Hope I helped! How can I stop biting my nails?
You just have to want to stop. Once you make up your mind to stop and find yourself putting your fingers to your mouth. You have to catch yourself in that position and decide that you're not going to bite.

Good luck with it. After a few times you will do just fine.
Well see myself have the same problem which I think yours may be worse then mine.....I don't bite my nails when I put nail polish on them just clear nail polish because I don't wanna ruin it...maybe it will help you too....
    Well, I know this sounds gross but I put hot sauce or a bad, shocking taste on my nails so that when I bit them, I would go ';EEWWW GROSS!';

And as that went on, I kept remembering that my nails will taste bad. Then, I didn't have to put stuff on my nails any longer! But, I still can't put nail polish on my nails because all I do is pick it off. Ugh... What a horrible habit.

I hope you get rid of that habit!
I had this problem too a while back and it's hard to stop, but it's worth it. I stopped biting mine when I got braces, because I couldn't bite them any more. Before that I had tried painting them because nail polish tastes gross! Just put a new layer of paint every other night, and try not to bite them. If that doesn't work, try wearing gloves.

How do you conceal a whole in the wall that is made by nails or screws? Thanks!?

If you're talking about drywall, get a small container of spackling, a putty knife, and some fine sandpaper.

Lightly tap the hole with a hammer, just enough to make a slight dimple in the wall. Not too hard, or you'll break the drywall. This is perhaps the most important step. If you don't make a dimple, covering the hole with spackling can be very frustrating.

Then fill in the dimpled area with the spackling and smooth it. It may require two coats.

Once it's dry, it's ready to be sanded and painted. How do you conceal a whole in the wall that is made by nails or screws? Thanks!?
Use dry wall compound. You can get it ready to use at any hardware store. How do you conceal a whole in the wall that is made by nails or screws? Thanks!?
Use PolyFilla filler. You can buy it at any hardware store.
Toothpaste works. So does mixing baking soda and water into a paste and filling the hole with it.
Purchase a small can of any filler, as joint compound, plaster,

wall putty etc. and fill in the holes.
Go to your local Home Improvement or Hardware store, tell them which type of wall you have the hole which needs repairing. They will be able to give you the proper goop and instructions on this project.
Buy a small container of light weight spackling it doesn't shrink and dries fast. Just push it into the hole and swipe with a putty knife to smooth.
you can get a small deal of putty from wal-mart, or if you just need a quick fix. Use toothpaste. Not gel, but the white stuff. If your walls are white, no one will notice. You will need to touch up the spot either way if your walls are colored tho.
You can use drywall compound or caulk. For holes that small, apply it and smooth it off with a putty knife. Easy as pie. For something bigger this link will guide you.

  • How do I get my black lab to let me trim her nails?

I've even tried the electric pedi paws trimmer and still no success. How do I get my black lab to let me trim her nails?
I have the same problem with my beagle. First of all, a groomer at Petco told me to use the scissor-like clippers ( http://www.petco.com/product/6040/Miller鈥?/a> ), they are easy to control and just better overall, especially if the dog doesn't like having his nails trimmed. She also suggested getting a Lavendar Calming spray they had at my local Petco, so check at yours, and I also found this online that I was going to try ( http://www.petco.com/product/7743/Richar鈥?/a> ). I haven't tried either the lavendar calming or the other online product yet. Talk to your groomers at your local petco or petsmart, they also do it there. Be sure to tell them that she doesn't like her nails being done, they may recommend someone specific that works really well with ';stubborn'; dogs

If these don't seem to help, try your vet. They often can clip nails for you, or talk to them about getting a light sedative to use when you do it at home.

Also if she is a puppy, or even older, whenever you are successful be sure to praise her, and when you finish a paw (or all 4, its up to you) give her a small treat to reinforce the good behavior.

Hope I helped :)How do I get my black lab to let me trim her nails?
If she is a pup its somethign new. take her to a groomer to get them done, after a few goes she will get use to it. Try not to scare her. Talk to her calmly and say things like ';good girl'; or ';well done'; and so on.
Make sure to try and keep her calm, and maybe have someone else distracting her while you do it, with treats or toys or something like that.

If all fails I say go to your vet or a professional dog groomer.
Play with her feet, hold her feet and pet her and get her use to having her feet, ears, and other body parts touched if need to be doctored. Then if you can only do one claw at a time that's a start.
You can hold her and cut her nails.... or you can take her to a pets mart or some where so a professinal can do it

How do you make your nails (not towards you) turn pink again after cutting too deeply?

What sort of glue can I use to re glue on fake nails?

There from Claire's. The glue that came with it dried up, and one nail fell off. Is there a glue I can buy that will work? What sort of glue can I use to re glue on fake nails?
Any other nail glue. Or super glue, its the same thing. What sort of glue can I use to re glue on fake nails?
The Claire's glues really don't work well. At the drugstore, there's a Revlon ';Naturally Chic'; Fake French Nail kit that comes with a super-strong glue. I've used it many times before, and the glue stays on for a very long time and the nails won't fall off unless you soak it in nail polish remover.

The glue itself is better than the nails, so I don't really recommend using the nails that come with it, because they chip too easily.
I usually use the BROADWAY fake nails and they come with glue in the box. It's a lot like superglue so that could be an alternative, but you can find nail glue at pharmacies and drugstores as well. Be careful when glueing on your nails, once I accidentally glued my fingers together!
i think nail glue should work or crazy glue.

How do you get acrylic nails off?

I have had professional acrylic nails for the past year, however, the lady that does my nails has gone away on holidays for the next month and my nails are looking really bad, so I was wondering how do I soak them off?

ThanksHow do you get acrylic nails off?
    Soak them in Acetone :]

For maybe 10 minutes until they start to dissolve then start to peel them off.How do you get acrylic nails off?
What i do is i get a cottom ball and soak it in nail polish remover then i put one cottom ball over each nail and make the cottom balls stay on by putting foil over them then let them soak in the nail polish remover for as long as possible. and make sure you re soak the cotttom balls every 15 minutes them slide the nails off by pushing the nail up slowly it should come off easily if you soaked then long enough p.s. if you leave fake nails on for too long they will get a gross fungus under your nail! your nail needs oxygen take then off at least once a year and give them some oxygen
All the answers above are correct but nobody mentioned that your real nails are going to peel off with your acrylics - if you peel them off - it's going to hurt, look awful (probably worse than they do now), and they are going to be brittle. The last time I had acrylics I just let them grow out. Yes, it looked bad but it was better than the alternative which looked bad AND hurt. Ever so often you'll bump them on something (during the grow-out period) and a chunk will pop off but the more you peel the worse you'll be + run the risk for fungus and infection. Good Luck. I loved my acrylics but I won't ever do it again.
When i take my acrylics off i prefer going to a nail place and having them do it and getting a manicure. You can do it on your own but your nails are going to be pretty weak and damaged so it would be good to get a manicure u know? I know you said the lady that does them is going away but maybe you can go to a different place just to have them taken off.
first, soak them in nail polish remover for about 2 minutes.

second, get your thumb nail off first, because you can peel the other ones off with the thumb nail. DO NOT RIP THEM OFF!!!

try to pry them off with another nail that's already off.

i hope i helped. ive had acrylic nails for forever. that's how i get them off when they start to look bad.
Your nail lady is going to be gone for an entire month? That's practically unheard of in the nail industry. As nail technicians, the clients we have are our bread %26amp; butter and to leave for a whole month would be very difficult for most techs to do without losing clients to other techs.

Anyway, to answer your question...First a few facts. 1) Acetone nail polish remover is diluted too much with other chemicals to be very effective. You need to get 100% pure acetone. This can be purchased at many different businesses - beauty supply stores, WalMart, even hardware stores carry it. Acetone is acetone, no matter where you buy it or what the label says such as Acrylic Nail Remover, Acetone or whatever. As long as its 100% pure acetone, it will work very well for the removal of acrylic nails. 2) When you remove your nails, do not force them off in any way. This is a sure way to damage your natural nails. And don't let a tech do it to you either. Forcing them off by tearing, or prying them off is not the way to remove acrylic nails - or gel nails either. 3) I saw several answers that mentioned 'fungus.' Well, it is true that a fungal infection could form on your fingernails, but it is unlikely. Fungal infections breed and thrive in warm, humid conditions. The most common place for this to occur is on toenails. Its pretty rare on fingernails though it can happen. What they probably mean to say but didn't know the proper term to use is a bacterial infection. This is usually created by your nails lifting, water seeps inside the little space left between your nail and the acrylic (or gel), and a bacterial infection can, and usually will occur under these conditions. This is most often indicated by a green colored area right under the nail enhancement. It is not anything serious, and does not usually need medical treatment of any sort. The simplest and most effective way of treating this is by cutting off its food supply - the moisture needs to be eliminated. This is done by removing the nail enhancement. The air will dry up the infection, and it will die off in a matter of a day or so. The green color might remain on your nails for a while, but not because they are still infected. Its due to your nails becoming stained from the infection. This will grow out on its own and lessen over time.

Now, to finally answer your question of how to remove your acrylic nails. I'm going to give you a link which describes two popular methods in detail. Its up to you which method you choose - either will work just fine. Follow the instructions, and your nails will some off easy, and pain free. I hope this helps!

get 2 bowls. in the larger one, heat up some water. then put the smalle one with nail poilish remover into the larger one. this will heat up the remover. you never wanna put the romover in your microwave. soak your nails in it for a little while, they should just soak right off. your nails will b very fragile for a while. or you could go to a different salon and have them take them off.
it's really really hard to do. i would never recommend it, ever. my mom has done it twice and both times regretted it, but for money purposes had to sacrifice it! it was really hard to soak them off, and really time consuming. i'd suggest getting a professional to do it, and then use some nail treatments to grow your nails back and add strength back to them. when my mom took hers off she had this ridgy short thin nails. good luck :)
(submitted via email) I only have the the felt pad removers and I cut them up, taped them to each nail and in 30 minutes, my fake nails were gone. They were a little gooey and the under nail felt dry and weak so put lots of lotion on afterward. Hannah (10/22/2008)

I found that on the internet... goodluck,
You can't really soak them off. I had the exact same situation.. I just filed down my nails today, painted them and now just waiting for them to grow out. Then just file them down again until its just your own nail.
Go to your local drug store or walmart. They sell Acrylic Nail Remover. I have that problems with my nails to sometimes. I have used it before and it works..

    It's not high... Good luck.
soak them in olive oil wor 15 minutes. then acetone. wash them, peel the nails off and put lotion on. acetone dries skin.
Soak them in acetone (you can get this from Wal* mart in the nail areas)

or go to the salon and they'll charge you to get them off.
The best way to get them off w/o messing you real nails up is to go to another salon and have them remove them it faster and less painful!
Soak your nails in Pure acetone...The acetone will melt the nail...Get something like one of those hard nail filer type things and push the melted nail off.
They like chocolate and sappy movies.
soak them in acetone nail polish remover orr pop them off .to soak them is going to take a while.1 hour at least.
soak them off with a strong nail poilish remover.

Check if they are soluable in acitone. If they are, soak them in it for 15-20 min. If not can't help u there.
