How Do Bird's Trim Their Nails In The WIld?

As a bird owner, we have to trim our bird's nails to keep them at a nice length. How do they keep their nails in check in the wild? Anyone know? Just wondering. How Do Bird's Trim Their Nails In The WIld?
The wild birds wear down their nails through daily activity. They perch on many different objects of different sizes and textures.

A domestic caged bird should also be given perches of varying shapes and diameters to avoid foot and leg problems, like arthritis. The natural branches, such as the manzanita perches, are the best.

The cement grooming perches and the sandpaper perches are not a good choice, as they can damage the pads on the bird's feet. How Do Bird's Trim Their Nails In The WIld?
They don't. They might naturally wear a bit as they land on branches and such, but they don't have to worry about them being sharp like we do with domestic birds (so it won't hurt when we hold them).
they wear down naturally because they use different sized ';perches'; made of many more materials than we can reproduce into there cage. They perch on anything from rocks, fence posts, Power lines, tree branches, etc.

Also for ease of cleanliness most of the materials in the cage aren't course enough to help trim there nails.
Birds in the wild are much more active than our spoiled birds at home. They need to forage for their own food and in doing so spend most of their day scouring the forest . The bark on trees and shrubs help wear away the nails.
The rough outside of the branch keeps them down to a ';natural wear';, and they are almost blunt.

That's why people buy the sandpaper perches to try and not trim as often, but it doesn't work.

I hate trimming my Grey's nails, and I also get nervous - so I take him to the vet to have his nails trimmed.
They keep them trimmed on branches and such. In domestic captivity, we have to trim them because we keep them on smooth perches.
They wear down naturally from branches etc in the wild. You shouldn't have to trim them in captivity either if you have natural branches %26amp; enough space for them to climb around %26amp; trim their own nails. I've never needed to trim or file my birds nails.
